SIX FLAGS FIESTA TEXAS
in SAN ANOTONIO

My brother and sister-in-law worked for Dell Computer, here in Austin Texas. Their company decided to have an employees' day out and barbeque. They just happened to reserve the Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme park for the event. I was asked to come along. Hmmm... let me think ... of course I'll go!

The day started out really hot. Hmmm could it be because we live in the desert? Nah.

There was already a line to get in at ten in the morning and that was while we were still in the car.

We parked in the Daffy 5 section. Whatever that means. Finding the car was easy but getting out of the park... well that is a bit premature.

It was easy getting into the park, we already had the tickets. Even if we didn't, season passes were only $25. I was amazed! This theme park was hosted by Warner Brothers cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Taz, and Yosemite Sam. They also had super hero hosts such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc. There was stuff to eat, rides to ride, stuff to eat, games to play, stuff to eat, shows to see, and lots of stuff to eat! The big show that night featured the artists of the group "Destiny's Child".

First order of business, get a map. I have a thing for maps. As everyone knows by now, I purchase a map the minute I get into a new location.

Map in hand, we were off to have fun. It seemed to me that everyone was headed to the right so in order to get on the rides quickly, I suggested we skip the obvious ride in front of us which was called the "Boomerang" and head left. Theoretically.

Poor Chrissy is six months pregnant so I got to be Chris's victim du jour. "Come on J, lets go. I haven't been barfed on in a while." Smarty pants. I love my brother. Really I do. Besides, if I killed him, I would have to take responsibility of Chrissy and their one and a half boys.

The first roller coaster we rode was called the "Poltergeist". As we walk into a large house, I though we would have a pre-ride show, like the Haunted House ride at Dizzyland, uh, I mean Disneyland. This was not the case. The house was there to keep us out of the sun while we waited to board.

Women were instructed to remove our earrings. "Why?" was my question due to the fact that my 24k gold ones in my second piercing were screwed in and a pain in the ears to remove. Well I finally got them off and we got on the ride. The car shot out of the covered area at a speed that had people screaming already. I found out why we were to remove our earrings and why the padding on the safety bars were so thick! The coaster was fast but the bad part was that your head was battered about so badly it was almost un-fun. I called the ride shake and bake for when we got back to de-board, we were out in the sun for a bit until the car ahead of us was de-boarded.

Me: "Ow..."

Chris: "Sick ....as....a....dog...now"

Me: Are my pupils dilated? I think I have a concussion."

The next ride was a water ride because we were all dying from the heat. The "Power Surge" was great fun! We were definitely cooler and much wetter after the ride. I was soaked down the front. The ride wasn't done with us, however, for as we were walking down the boardwalk away from the ride, the boats hit the water and splashed everyone on the boardwalk. Now I was wet on both sides! Chrissy couldn't get on the ride but she and my nephew went out to the boardwalk to cool off. I think it might have been a bit a shock for the little tike for when Chrissy brought him back, the poor kid was crying.

Yes I know, we're evil, but he was much cooler after that, really.

We wandered through the shops in Rockville. There was a karaoke place where you could be put into a video. I kicked Chris's butt at air hockey. I forgot to tell him I was good at it. Cheat? Me? Nah!

Spassburg was where a lot of the games and kiddy rides were. I can see how they make a great profit off the stuffed animals because the people are sooooo obsessed with winning this funky, furry thing, they don't realize they could have purchased it at Toys R Us for a fraction of the price! Explaining my pragmatic point got me a dirty look from all pertinent parties. He he he.

We ate lunch in this large cafeteria that boasted food from Italy, Mexico, Germany and the US of A. It was during this time that we enjoyed a Polka band.

The Superman ride, by far, had to be the best ride in the park. While Chris and I were doing this, Chrissy and Spencer went to investigate the "Chevy Venture Looney Tunes Rockin' Road Show".

The Superman ride was smooth, fast and fun. We were even entertained while in line by a man who had obviously just watched the movie, "Scary Movie". He was a character. His "girly man" scream was pretty funny too as the ride took off.

After the Superman ride, we were searching for Chrissy but instead found a rock climbing wall. Chris thought he would give it a try. I wanted to but didn't want to stand out in the sun, which was where the line was located. I know, wuss, but heatstroke is just not my bag, man.

We found Chrissy. There was a train that went around the park. This was a ride Chrissy could do. Unfortunately we had an expensive baby buggy with us and no bike lock to lock it up. I told Chris that he should take his wife and son on this train ride and I would watch the buggy while searching for ice cream. I wasn't really hungry. Just hot and needed an excuse to get them on the ride together.

I finally found the ice cream place and while in line I met someone who worked at Dell and the wife of a Dell employee. They were nice people.

Side note: I was amazed how many people would move out of the way to let a baby buggy thorough. There was no baby in it but they still moved. Now there's a feeling of power! OK so I'm easily amused.

We went back the Power Surge to rinse off the sweat and dust and spent the rest of the day sight seeing. There were many other rides and shows we missed but we were happy. Now to try and get out! That was the trick. Everyone had the same idea, leave early to avoid the rush. Ironic. They might want to work on putting up exit signs and organizing everyone's egress. Other than that, it was great fun! I hear there's a bigger Six Flags in Houston.
